Coldforged: A Quick Player Guide

Each Thursday this year, I focus on a different aspect of the world I’ve created and played D&D in for over 20 years, in the hopes of honing the ideas and cementing enough in place to settle the world in my own mind. This week, I’ve put together a player primer, let’s take a look!

So, I’m going to let the guide do the talking here, so this actual article is going to be pretty short. That said, the PDF is a 3 pager with a bunch of rules, so it should be fine.

The Quick Guide

While I have run adventures and campaigns in my own setting for ages, one thing I’ve never really felt comfortable with is setting the pace and style of my DMing right off the bat. With the creation of the Campaign Book, I wanted to get started on something that could help others simply become acclimated to the settings rigors. Its not a player primer, which would be a quick right up of the setting, races, classes, etc that I am going to get to further on, but it is something that I think players need.

In the document, I make sure to go over the highlights of the rules as they will be used in the campaign setting, including optional rules being enforce for damage, healing, magic items and renown, as well as a brief overview of cold weather, as that is going to be a feature of the entire setting.

Well, enough chat. Lets get to the guide. Let me know what you think, both about the rules and about the format. A big shoutout to the two artists I used for the PDF:

The Armory by Ivan Troitsky
The Prize by Andreas Rocha

Both of these guys have stellar work. Check em out.
