The Necrotechs Workshop XXIV – Many Paths Forward

1337615786_062-warmachine_legends_11of4

With Privateer revealing that they will be looking to address the Cryxian ability to play into gunlines and my general lack of playing time, I’ve started to branch out into list that, while might not be the best, or even good, into a gunline, might be my pairing with a list that covers that match up for me. I have also, while working with the Coven list, been brainstorming lists for the whole roster, spare a few. Its going to be interesting, going forward, and I think that once the problem with ranged is addressed, it will open up a gammut of different lists. Come, let me show you what I’m thinking about.

The list of fun and interesting ‘Casters in Cryx is something of a debate. Our faction has changed a lot, and even now, 4 months in, its still not really shook out. But I do have my own personal list of casters I want to try out, that look Interesting or fun to me, in order of desire to play.

  • Scaverous
  • Goreshade 1
  • Terminus
  • Venethrax
  • Goreshade 2
  • Mortenebra
  • Asphyxious 3
  • Deneghra 1
  • Skarre 2

Each of these casters has one or more intriguing features that I want to try out, and most of them have multiple options that I think would create for a dynamic and interesting play experience. I’ll go over a few

Scaverous

Scaverous kit has always been awesome, and the changes that he received in the conversion to this edition were extremely exciting. He is still only 14/17 on a medium base, but due to the quantity of terrain on the table, he often seems like he would have a great place to hide. He has an Armor buff, a defense debuff, an armor debuff and TK. There is almost nothing he can’t make better with that suite of abilities. Additionally, he has an awesome rule for rerolls and a feat that can really threaten assassination. He has a ton of angles and a ton of cool options he can take. I personally want to give Aaron Wales list a go.

Scaverous
-Withershadow Combine
-Deathripper
-Deathripper
-Erebus
Wrong Eye and Snap Jaw
Ragman
Saxon Orrik
Machine Wraith
Necrotech
Soul Trapper
Satyxis Raiders
-Sea Witch
Croe’s Cutthroats

I’d probably swap out the Machinewraith, Necrotech and Soul Trapper for Midwinter, but we’d have to see how it plays a few times.  Sadly, I haven’t been able to pick up Croe’s Cutthroats yet, but once I do, I’m looking forward to getting some reps in with this guy.

Goreshade 1

Goreshade is just as simple and monodimensional as he was in MK2, but I’ve been waiting to see the inflictors before putting his new version on the table. With a hit buff and two different stackable armor buffs, stealth and both an armor and defense debuff, he really has a capacity to take on a lot of hordes factions. Add in Wrong eye and Snap Jaw for starcrossed, and you’ve got a very tough nugget with which to anchor the army. This is the list I want to run, but like Croe, I’ve not managed to pick up the inflictors, one day. Tons of Stealth, Star crossed, repair options. I like its future, especially if both my lists don’t have to run gunline interference.

Goreshade the Bastard
-Deathwalker
-Inflictor
-Inflictor
-Deathjack
Darragh Wrathe
Wrong Eye & Snapjaw
Orin Midwinter, Rogue Inquisitor
Necrotech
Necrotech
Soul Trapper
Satyxis Blood Witches
-Satyxis Blood Hag

Terminus

A simple and beatfisty caster, with a list that makes the most of it. Able to simply shrug off massive amounts of damage and assist with delivering his army into the opponents. Its a simple list, and Terminus has almost no trickyness, but its enjoyable to try and shove a giant monster down the opponents throat. Its loaded with weaponmasters, cheap bodies and a pair of shield guards with reach and the possibility of berserk.

Lich Lord Terminus

Bane Warriors
Bane Warriors
Mechanithralls
Necrosurgeon & Stitch Thralls
Carrion Thralls
Satyxis Blood Witches
-Satyxis Blood Hag

Venethrax

This list is a stupid version of the Feedbackapaloza list, where I might be able to also contribute in a different way with the heavy jacks, lamentation, and a strong feat that can really hold up the jacks and beasts and enable the troops of the dragonfather to get into the game for just a little longer. with a bonus to hit and damage with mortality enabling the Raiders and Barathrum to really take advantage of their feedback, I think this list has a ton of promise. Unfortunately that leaves me with needing still another unit of Satyxis. Soon, I hope, but its one of those lists I’ve not, again, managed to finish off.

-Erebus
-Harrower
-Barathrum

Goreshade 2

Finally! A list that I have the models for, so this one is the one I’ve been playing. I’ve gotten two games in with it, and while one was a beating straight to my face, the other one was a solid game against Devon from Advanced Maneuvers here. What I wanted to do with this list was to really stymie a bunch of different lists. With Mirage and Occultation, I can create a pair of units that have Apparition, Stealth, and have a possible skew of Incorp if I can get into the opponents troops. Abyssal Gate is a very good spell, so having as many vectors for that specific spell, Deathjack, Arc node, direct from Goreshade and Withershadow, means that I can threaten scenario if you’re only toeing in the zone, and I can create a problem with a swath of troops who almost universally don’t care that you exist. Finally, with the Blackbanes generating more models every turn, hopefully, when I pop my feat and bring back how ever many you’ve managed to kill, I could have an enormous unit of ghosts simply staring the board down. Unfortunately, Goreshade doesn’t have a strong defense debuff – he can put up Curse of Shadows and allow me to easily move through your models to get backstrikes, but that is about it. Still, with a proper vengeance and apparition, I could be moving all of my infantry prior to the start of my turn and setting up some unpredicatable charge lanes. I really like the concept.

Goreshade the Cursed
-The Withershadow Combine
-Deathjack
-Deathripper
Scrap Thrall x9
Bane Lord Tartarus
Blackbane’s Ghost Raiders
Bane Knights
Satyxis Blood Witches
-Satyxis Blood Hag

Mortenebra

This list was concieved before we realized that Deryliss was broken, but the concept was pretty solid. I would interface with the kraken while sacrificing a stitch thrall for three turns in order to power up a field of lights that are fast, hard to hit, and can actually do a bit of damage. With a high defense and a bit of boxes each, and four repairs floating around, I think there was a lot of possiblity with overrun, but then that was taken from us. Maybe I can toss in a third Shrike if I learn that I don’t need the extra necrotechs, but that will take some testing. Here is to this in the future!

Let me know your favorite lists, and what you think I could do to my lists. Theory isn’t my strong suite, and I’d love to hear some of the lists you want to run, either here, twitter or facebook!
