The Necrotechs Workshop – LX – Fiddling Around

Just because I’m pretty set on my lists for the next while doesn’t mean that I’m not thinking about other lists or casters. Let’s take a look at what I would love to play if I had enough games in my system to just play whatever I wanted:

The first list that came to my head was, as always, a Denny 1 list to try and leverage her armor breaking. Nothing special. However, the thought of using her with Marauders led me to think about who would like to use marauders, and it led me deeper into the rabbit hole, and I came out with this untested and untried pile of insanity.

What if They Shot TWICE?

Cryx Army – 75 / 75 points
Slaughter Fleet Raiders

Skarre, Queen of the Broken Coast [+26]
– Corruptor [14]
– Deathripper [6]
– Scavenger [7]
– Scavenger [7]

Axiara Wraithblade [0(6)]
General Gerlak Slaughterborn [0(6)]

Black Ogrun Boarding Party (max) [11]
Black Ogrun Boarding Party (max) [11]
Black Ogrun Smog Belchers (min) [9]
Blighted Trollkin Marauders (max) [15]
Bloodgorgers (max) [15]
– Jussika Bloodtongue [0(5)]

The theme here is Black Spot. It’s a great spell to put on infantry to watch them all burn, and I think a single unit of marauders will get the job done just fine. Skarre 2 also doesn’t have an armor debuff, so making sure that Black Ogrun are around to hit things right good is a solid plan. In SFR the Corruptor gets Gang Fighter, putting him up to a substantial P+S 18 in melee, which can often do a good deal to a big Target and combined with the feat it can create two turns of pounding on a substantial target, getting 7 or 8 whacks at its noggin. The corruptor also brings surprising synergy with Skarre 2, as the only shot he can use and trigger Black Spot with is his heal shot, and Skarre is always cutting herself. He can then shoot the Psycho Venom shot at a second target to set up cycling of Black Spot or blow up a huge spot of infantry. The Scavengers are excellent under her feat, with def 20 being no laughing matter even before the -5 to hit. Bloodgorgers are solid line infantry and a good clean up crew for when the game is crawling to a close. Smog Belchers do what they do best, advance up the field covering the army, and then possibly moving back to be behind their clouds. It feels like a great list, and I want to try it one day, but it doesn’t look to be in the cards until March or later when I will likely be tired of Slaughter fleet and moving to Scourge.

If 9 Isn’t Good Enough

The Second list I am looking at doing, because if you own 10 of something, you have to field it, right?

Cryx Army – 75 / 75 points
Black Industries

Soul Trapper [1]
Soul Trapper [1]

I have absolutely no illusions that this is a good list. I’m pretty sure it is right out there with the worst lists, but it is a list, and I want to try it out. Not only does one of the Slayers get to be immune to broken arms and arm 19 on the approach, they are all 21 v guns, to absolutely no one’s surprise. The problem I’ve had with slayers, though, is their lackluster output, and man does this list fix that problem. While you might get 1-2 less to the enemy lines due to a lower speed and lack of Unyielding, I think that it is very possible that the damage swing more than makes up for that. I could be wrong. But, getting the Cryx Mystery box and having that 10th slayer makes me think a bit about how I’d use it. Same goes for the reapers. Now that I have 5, what type of list could I build with that?

A Rushing of Tattered Wings

When you have 10 of something, you start thinking of how to get value out of the models, Sometimes, that means that you have to buy 5 more of a model.

Cryx Army – 75 / 75 points
Black Industries

Lich Lord Venethrax [+26]
– Scavenger [0(7)]
– Scavenger [0(7)]

– Slayer [10]
Machine Wraith [2]
Soul Trapper [1]
Soul Trapper [1]
Soul Trapper [1]
Black Ogrun Ironmongers [6]

This list is a pretty simple concept that came about from discussing why Venethrax isn’t used much. A friend and I were talking about what happens if I took 5 slayers and as many Scavengers as I could, to create a countercharging field of stupid models. Thus was born The Birds 2. This list isn’t anything subtle, but it feels like it will cause the opponent headaches trying to figure out which models can land where while trying to not get them eaten by birds. Scavengers with def 15 and flight are easy to screen and can charge overtop of the slayers while also being reasonably difficult to hit by anything that is continuing to charge in the turn. Some of them may end up destroyed, but that’s fine in the long run. Venethrax suffers from difficult terrain and lack of speed against non-living, but I think that’s something that is made up by being able to countercharge a literal pile of models into your opponent every turn. It might not be your positioning, but you are further up the board.

Terminal Velocity granting free charges is a great use of focus with this many jacks and allows a follow-up strike on a target charged with a combo strike or two attacks at boosted damage with a scavenger. The Shrikes don’t really benefit from that specific part of the rule, but 4 dice to hit with tramples is scary to almost anyone. The Solos are there to gather souls, if able, and if not, to one at a time come up and score a flag while Venethrax is busy putting lamentation on the opponent and making sure Terminal Velocity is in the right place.

His feat is a pretty hard counter to the turn you either are setting up the alpha, forcing them back or after you’ve delivered into the enemy to prevent retaliation and possibly cause a frenzy. It is not a great feat, but it does enough work that it feels solid, especially against Warmachine, though they still get power up, which is irritatingly stupid.

So, what lists are tickling around in the back of you’re head? What are insane ideas that you guys are thinking about trying?
